Manitoba government gets involved

We welcome the participation of the Manitoba Department of Education, Citizenship and Youth (MECY) in this year’s Media Literacy Week. This marks the first time a provincial or territorial government has been involved in the week. As a new collaborator, MECY is highlighting the important role that provincial and territorial governments can play in ensuring Canadian youth are media literate.

Featured educators and youth

This is where we highlight educators and youth from across Canada who are developing new and innovative ways to integrate media into the learning process. One of these educators is Rob Dougherty, a teacher from Tom Baines School in Calgary, Alberta.

Rob Dougherty

Rob, who teaches drama, performing arts and explorations in film, was awarded a 2009 Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence for his outstanding achievements in teaching. Rob has pioneered the integration of information and communications technology into junior high performing arts courses in Calgary, including using film, digital recording and editing techniques in drama classes. The curricula he developed are now available province-wide.
